The Annual Parish Corn Roast takes place Sunday afternoon on the Labour Day Weekend.

Thou visitest the earth, and waterest it: thou greatly enrichest it with the river of God, which is full of water: thou preparest them corn, when thou hast so provided for it.

(Psalm 65:9)

The parish Cornroast is a potluck meal where parishioners bring all manner of good thing - both food and friends.

The parish provides the truly "amaizing" Corn!

Boys and girls, can you say, "Ah, Shucks" ?

even our firewood is cut with care and love.

(by friendly "Mr. Chain-saw")

The fires are stoked in memory of the Three Holy Youths

It's an informal function.

save and except for the guy reciting Shakespeare,

" Double, double boil and bubble..."

We get a chance to better know one another,

make new friends,

And meet newer parishioners.

Israel then shall dwell in safety alone: the fountain of Jacob shall be upon a land of corn and wine; also his heavens shall drop down dew.

(Deuteronomy 33:28)

...There's always plenty of food

...even to satisfy the hungriest teenagers!

would you believe....Canadian Gothic?

Barbeque-ing is big.

(fire insurance is also big!)

The men cook and the mothers get to relax... ( FOR ONCE! )

The pastures are clothed with flocks; the valleys also are covered over with corn; they shout for joy, they also sing.

(Psalm 65:13)

A live band and NO COVER CHARGE!

A Sing-along at the Vatra (Ukrianian Camp Fire).

Do I hear you asking, "What is the difference between the Vatra (the Ukrainian Camp Fire) and a regular Anglophone Camp Fire?"

The answer to these and all other such questions is,"Come and See!"

All are welcome to bring instruments along - anything goes: zithers, guitars, or even wooden spoons!

What is they say about "a watched pot"? I forget....

Therefore God give thee of the dew of heaven, and the fatness of the earth, and plenty of corn and wine.

(Genesis 27:28)

And above all, it's a family day for the KIDS!

And had rained down manna upon them to eat, and had given them of the corn of heaven.

(Psalm 78:24)

For the kids, there's...

...Fishing in the parochial Fish Pond.

Hay-rides around the Church fields and meadows are very popular - for monks as well as kids!

Of course, there are games for the children.

The ever popular "triadic" Legged Race.

Who could forget the traditional "Sakkos" Race.

And then there is the "Voda" Balloon Toss.

...in reality just a thinly veiled pretext for an all out Water Balloon Fight!

This was 2 seconds before the photograph became suddenly soaked....

The Corn Roast Marathon organized by the Youth Group.

The most grueling 0.262 miles known to man...

...so I guess the girls don't find it quite so grueling... (since they've already eaten their porridge...)

There shall be an handful of corn in the earth upon the top of the mountains; the fruit thereof shall shake like Lebanon: and they of the city shall flourish like grass of the earth.

(Psalm 72:16)

of course the favourite race is... the primary school Tractor Pull!

Then there's that All-Ukrainian favourite....Baseball.

"Take me out to the ball game...

Take me out with the crowd..."

Wagons Ho!

Yet another captive audience for one of Fr. Roman's singing practices!

Set your mind at ease

Lest you should worry

Security services are taken care of by....

It's a bird, it's a plane, it's.... Batman! And his mixed-metaphoric sidekicks, the 3 Muskrateers!

And the LORD their God shall save them in that day as the flock of his people: for they shall be as the stones of a crown, lifted up as an ensign upon his land. For how great is his goodness, and how great is his beauty! corn shall make the young men cheerful, and new wine the maids.

(Zechariah 9:16, 17)
