SaintElias.com -> Parish activitiesSkating on the St. Elias Pond after Liturgy
"The breath of God produces ice, and the broad waters become frozen." (Job 37:10) Also from the Prophecy of Daniel 3:69-70: "Frost and cold, bless the Lord: give glory and eternal praise to Him." "Ice and snow, bless the Lord: give glory and eternal praise to Him." From the Canticle of the Three Holy Children, Hananiah, Araziah, and Mishael (a.k.a. "Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego" in the language of their captors), which they sang from the midst of the Fiery Furnace in praise of the Lord.

In Job 38:28-30, the Bible tells us about the Creator of all this winter wonders, asking: Does the rain have a father? Who fathers the drops of dew? From whose womb comes the ice? Who gives birth to the frost from the heavens when the waters become hard as stone, when the surface of the deep is frozen? Our Children don't make snow forts. They make snow Poustynyks! And here's the onion domed Banya! Ok, maybe it's just a snowman (snow-mensch?). But, if you ask me, it has a striking similarity to St. Herman of Alaska.... Coincidence? Faster than a speeding bullet... Move over, Rocket Richard! Even the clergy come out for a couple of laps There are strange things done in the midnight sun.... More Fun than Homework and 'way better than a Nap (... if you're a kid) The smiles say it all... "Priests, bless the Lord: give glory and eternal praise to Him." "Servants of the Lord, bless the Lord: give glory and eternal praise to Him." (Daniel 3:84-85) |
