Holy Week + Pascha 2019

My dear Parishioners, Family and Friends!

5 years ago, we celebrated this Feast in a hastily constructed tent because the loss of our temple two weeks before had left us homeless.  However, the sorrow and tears of this loss were almost immediately changed into hope-filled joy.  In retrospect, through the eyes of faith, perhaps God intentionally sent this tragedy to us to remind us that it is only through suffering that we can experience resurrection.

Is this not what takes place in our lives?  Our parents taught us: “….all things work together for good to them that love God.” (Romans 8:28).  Oftentimes it is difficult for us to accept this, but truly, this happens!  Consider the story of our families – what they have gone through.  God never abandoned us!  Look into our homes, especially at our elders.  At one time they cared for us, and now, we care for them.  In such cases we are faced if not today, then most certainly in the future, with the cross and suffering, but afterwards, there will be joy in Christ.  Let us be certain of this!

As proof, look at the photo . Behind us, the still smouldering remains of our church home, but on the faces of those present – smiles of joy!  Joy, because we knew that in Christ, things would be okay.  This is what took place in our community 5 years ago, and this is what will continue to be.  Only hold fast to Jesus!  As in this photo then, so also in the future, know that because of what we prepare to celebrate in the days ahead, He gives us Victory, Life, Resurrection – and Joy!
