He really knew how to feed crowds- which he did with joy.  Oryst was a quiet force in this community and he will be missed by us and so many others. Venerable Father Francis McSpiritt – Our Local Saint A mere 20 minute drive from Saint Elias Church, in a cemetery off Mayfield Road, there lays the earthly remains of a holy man, a wonder-worker, and local saint. Read more below. Fr. Francis McSpiritt was born in 1836 in Co. Cavan, Ireland. He founded the church of St. Patrick in Wildfield, in the Parish of Toronto-Gore (now within the city of Brampton). During his lifetime, he was renowned as a healer and wonder-worker, healing all manner of illnesses. He would often bestow healing of infirmity in exchange for a holy pledge on the part of the family. He was know especially for healing migraine headaches, cataracts as well as accident victims and crippled children. He also brought back protestants into the Church of God through his ministry. Like so many other great saints, he had his eccentricities. He was known to carry a whip with which he would unapologetically beat men who beat their wives. Before he died, he foretold that even the dust from his grave would heal the infirmities of faithful folk. This would indeed come to pass and after his death in 1895, his grave became a sight of pilgrimage until the mid 1930’s. The Church authorities eventually suppressed these activities and for a long time the memory of this holy priest was forgotten. But God, who knows all hidden things, and who alone bestows blessings and gifts, has once again revealed His servant Francis to us, in our time, perhaps when he is needed most. Fr. Vito Marziliano, former rector of St. Patrick’s Church, began the official process for the beatification of Fr. Francis (officially having him added to the official list of Saints). Until then, we who live in the Brampton area have a local intercessor, someone who has hallowed the place in which we live.  You can visit the grave of Fr. Venerable Father Francis McSpiritt – Our Local Saint A mere 20 minute drive from Saint Elias Church, in a cemetery off Mayfield Road, there lays the earthly remains of a holy man, a wonder-worker, and local saint. Read more below. Fr. Francis McSpiritt was born in 1836 in Co. Cavan, Ireland. He founded the church of St. Patrick in Wildfield, in the Parish of Toronto-Gore (now within the city of Brampton). During his lifetime, he was renowned as a healer and wonder-worker, healing all manner of illnesses. He would often bestow healing of infirmity in exchange for a holy pledge on the part of the family. He was know especially for healing migraine headaches, cataracts as well as accident victims and crippled children. He also brought back protestants into the Church of God through his ministry. Like so many other great saints, he had his eccentricities. He was known to carry a whip with which he would unapologetically beat men who beat their wives. Before he died, he foretold that even the dust from his grave would heal the infirmities of faithful folk. This would indeed come to pass and after his death in 1895, his grave became a sight of pilgrimage until the mid 1930’s. The Church authorities eventually suppressed these activities and for a long time the memory of this holy priest was forgotten. But God, who knows all hidden things, and who alone bestows blessings and gifts, has once again revealed His servant Francis to us, in our time, perhaps when he is needed most. Fr. Vito Marziliano, former rector of St. Patrick’s Church, began the official process for the beatification of Fr. Francis (officially having him added to the official list of Saints). Until then, we who live in the Brampton area have a local intercessor, someone who has hallowed the place in which we live.  You can visit the grave of Fr.
